Mozambique LNG project supports post-flood recovery
Maputo, 28 April 2026 – The Mozambique LNG project, operated by TotalEnergies EP Mozambique Area 1 Limitada, has today signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with three civil society organizations as part of the post-flood recovery phase, providing approximately 145.5 million meticais in financial support to assist communities affected by the floods that occurred in late 2025 and early 2026 in several provinces of Mozambique.
The MoUs were signed with MAHLAHLE – Association for the Promotion and Development of Women, the Mozambican Caritas Association, and World Vision International-Mozambique, formalizing partnerships aimed at supporting approximately 180,000 people in the provinces of Gaza, Maputo and Inhambane. The interventions will focus on water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), education, agriculture and livelihoods, food security, and the protection of women and children.
These partnerships complement the support previously provided by the Mozambique LNG project to the National Institute for Disaster Risk Management and Reduction (INGD) as part of the emergency response to the floods, which included the delivery of food supplies, hygiene kits and medical and sanitary items to affected populations.
The partner organizations will be responsible for the direct implementation of activities on the ground, applying community-based approaches adapted to local contexts.
During the signing ceremony, Jean-Pascal Clemençon, Senior representative of TotalEnergies in Mozambique, stated: “The floods had a severe impact on the lives of thousands of Mozambican families. Through these Memoranda of Understanding, the Mozambique LNG project reaffirms its commitment to continue working alongside the Government of Mozambique during the recovery phase following the emergency response. This support aims to help restore social and economic conditions in affected communities and assist families in re-establishing their livelihoods and living conditions. Working with experienced national and international partners enables an effective and inclusive response aligned with Mozambique’s priorities.”
The financial support provided under these agreements includes:
– 63,250,000 meticais allocated to MAHLAHLE – Association for the Promotion and Development of Women, supporting recovery programmes
in the areas of WASH, education, and agriculture, benefiting approximately 125,000 people in the districts of Manjacaze and Chibuto in Gaza province.
