27 Mozambique LNG Scholars Travel to France

Today, 27 students embarked on their journey to France where they will benefit from higher education scholarships in Paris. Granted by the Mozambique LNG Project, operated by TotalEnergies EP Mozambique Area 1 Limitada, the scholarships will mark the beginning of their academic activities.

This represents the third edition of the scholarship program in partnership with the French Government. The scholarships were awarded after a rigorous selection process, considering multiple criteria such as academic excellence, gender diversity, provincial representation, and the candidates’ backgrounds. Over the past three years, this program has awarded a total of 68 scholarships, with the aim of contributing to the education and development of young talents in Mozambique.

From among 950 candidates across the country, 27 young individuals, including 13 women, were selected in collaboration with the French Embassy. The group of selected students will attend some of the most prestigious universities in France, pursuing Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees.

Laurent Perez-Vidal, Cooperation and Cultural Affairs Advisor at the French Embassy in Mozambique, stated that “Student mobility is a priority for the French Government, and in this context, the French Embassy in Mozambique and Eswatini has been developing a program of scholarships for doctoral, master’s, technical and professional bachelor’s degrees for many years. With this objective, the Campus France Space was established at the headquarters of the Pedagogical University of Maputo to inform, guide, and support students wishing to pursue education in France. The scholarship program has had a more significant impact since 2021, thanks to the participation and contribution of TotalEnergies, as well as Société Générale and Schlumberger.

Starting in September, there will be nearly 100 Mozambican students studying in France! This number makes us very happy, as it exceeds the goal we had announced for 2025!”

Jenifer Cheveia, Vice President for Corporate Affairs at TotalEnergies EP Mozambique Area 1 Limitada, expressed that, “It is with great satisfaction that for the third consecutive year, the Mozambique LNG Project witnesses the departure of these young students to France. With the 27 students now heading to Paris, we have reached a total of 68 beneficiaries so far. We hope that these young individuals, upon their return from their studies, will actively contribute to the sustainable development of the country.”

António Amisse, from Cabo Delgado, who will be pursuing a Bachelor’s in Industrial Engineering and Maintenance, stated that “The course aims to train professionals capable of operating and improving processes and equipment used in industries, ensuring safety and efficient functioning of the industry in general. I hope to acquire knowledge and skills that will enable me to contribute to the improvement of the quality of industrial processes in Mozambique.”

Virgínia Gimo, who comes from Sofala and is joining the Master’s in Development and Environmental Studies, said, “This training will equip me with scientific and practical knowledge to become a high-potential professional, an influencer of change, and with skills to build more sustainable business models for Mozambique.”
