TotalEnergies becomes one of the main distributors of fuels in Mozambique

TotalEnergies strengthens its presence in Mozambique with the acquisition of a network of service stations, the sale of petroleum products and BP’s logistics assets.

The transaction involves a network of 26 service stations, a portfolio of industrial customers and 50% of the capital of SAMCOL, a logistics company previously jointly owned by TotalEnergies and BP, which operates the Matola, Beira and Nacala fuel depots.

These assets complement TotalEnergies’ existing network in Mozambique, which already comprises 57 service stations, as well as its B2B activities. TotalEnergies thus reinforces its position as a leading player in the distribution of petroleum products in the country.

On their visit to Mozambique today, Patrick Pouyanné, Chairman and CEO of TotalEnergies, and the Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, Ernesto Max Tonela, inaugurated the first station of the new network with the “TotalEnergies” brand. The “24 de Julho” station, located in Maputo, works entirely on solar energy, and has a convenience store, which includes a Bonjour café. TotalEnergies thus has 19 stations that run on solar energy.

«This agreement reflects TotalEnergies’ willingness to continue its investments in the energy sector in Mozambique to implement our multi-energy strategy, through the distribution of petroleum products for mobility, our important liquefied natural gas project Mozambique LNG and the concomitant supply of domestic gas, as well as the opportunities in the field of renewable energies under evaluation. We therefore have the ambition to contribute to the sustainable development of the country and allow access to energy to as many people as possible,” said Patrick Pouyanné, Chairman and CEO of TotalEnergies.
