TotalEnergies promotes Human Rights trainings

TotalEnergies EP Mozambique Area 1 Limitada, the operator of the Mozambique LNG project, recently organized human rights trainings in the cities of Maputo, Pemba, and Palma. The Company’s employees, socio-economic projects implementing partners in Cabo Delgado, public and private institutions, and civil society organizations attended the trainings.

The trainings, which focused on TotalEnergies’ approach of human rights, included topics related to human rights and labour, human rights and local communities, and human rights and security.

Carine Coudeville, Vice President for Human Rights at TotalEnergies, stated that “the respect for human rights, which is the respect of each other, a cardinal value of TotalEnergies, is a strong commitment by TotalEnergies to contribute to people’s well-being and sustainable business development wherever it operates. We will, together with our affiliate in Mozambique, continue to gather synergies with stakeholders to pursue this desideratum.”

Laila Chilemba, Vice President for Socio-Economic Development at TotalEnergies EP Mozambique Area 1 Limitada, said: “The respect for human rights is a collective and individual commitment. Therefore, TotalEnergies regularly develops training and awareness programs for its employees and stakeholders in human rights matters, in the light of the laws of the countries in which it operates and the various international principles that the Company applies, which include the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the principles set out in the fundamental conventions of the International Labour Organization, the United Nations guiding principles on business and human rights, and the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights”.

In turn, Frederico João, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the NGO Forum of Cabo Delgado (FOCADE), added: “The training initiative on Human Rights held in Pemba by TotalEnergies was very useful and important for us as civil society organizations. The commitments made by the multinational company in the promotion and respect of human rights and dignity, especially in the communities where the exploration of resources takes place, is to be commended, although the practical implementation is always a challenge. Therefore, this training is important for our activities to monitor the commitments made by TotalEnergies”.
