On September 6, 2025, the people of Palma gathered to celebrate the official inauguration of the Senga Road, a new paved infrastructure that promises to transform mobility, trade, and access to services in the district of Palma, Cabo Delgado.

The project, launched on February 26, 2024, was made possible through a partnership between the Government of Mozambique and the Mozambique LNG project, operated by TotalEnergies, as part of its social responsibility commitments. With an investment of USD 2.69 million, the road was successfully completed thanks to the joint efforts of contractors, supervisors, authorities, and the local community itself.

The Senga Road connects the communities of Quitunda, Senga, Patacua, and Mangala to other parts of Palma District, in Cabo Delgado province. More than just a road, it is a lifeline that will:

  • Improve transitability and reduce travel times.
  • Facilitate the flow of agricultural products, goods, and services.
  • Enhance access to schools, health facilities, and markets;
  • Open new economic and social opportunities for thousands of families.

Local leaders and residents expressed their gratitude for the project, emphasizing that the road is already a visible sign of progress, even before the production of liquefied natural gas has begun. It represents the shared vision of building lasting benefits for communities while laying the foundation for a sustainable future.

The Senga Road is more than a piece of infrastructure, it is a symbol of hope, resilience, and collaboration. It stands as proof that, step by step, meaningful development is reaching the people of Palma, ensuring that local communities move forward on a stronger and more connected path.
