TotalEnergies scholars travel to France

The 22 young people, of which 12 are women, were selected, in collaboration with the French Embassy in Mozambique, from a list of 1581 young candidates from all over the country. The scholarships were awarded after a rigorous selection process, which included criteria such as academic competence and gender diversity.

This group of selected students will attend some of the most prestigious university institutions in France, covering a wide range of subjects at Bachelor and Master level.

This is the second edition in which scholarships are awarded, and in last year’s edition 21 scholarships were awarded, thus totaling 43 scholarships awarded by TotalEnergies in the two years of this scholarship program for higher education in France.

Laurent Perez-Vidal, Counselor for Cooperation and Cultural Action at the French Embassy in Mozambique, stated that “student mobility is a priority for French Government and in this context, the French Embassy in Mozambique and Eswatini has been developing for many years the program of higher scholarships at the doctoral, master’s and technical and professional degree levels. Since 2021, this program has become more significant with the participation and contribution of TotalEnergies and Société Générale, and recently this year with Schlumberger.”

Jenifer Cheveia, Vice President for Corporate Affairs at TotalEnergies said: “It is with great satisfaction that for the second year in a row, TotalEnergies is witnessing the departure of students to France. Our expectation is that these young students, when they return from their training, are even better able to contribute to making a positive change in their communities, in the companies and organizations they will work in.

Therefore, despite our Mozambique LNG project being in Force Majeure, and therefore with the operations suspended, we remain committed to contributing to the sustainable development of Mozambique.”

Lúcia Manuel Varela, who is part of the Master’s in Petroleum Geosciences, said: “I feel really blessed to benefit from this scholarship. I hope to make the most of it and, through this master’s, acquire knowledge that will allow me to work in different areas of the mining sector, especially in the oil industry, which has shown promising in terms of the development of Mozambique. It is also my dream to develop a business in the field of geological and environmental consultancy, as well as to contribute to the training of future geologists.”

Judson Matusso, who will integrate the bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and Industrial Computing, said that “with this opportunity to study in France, I hope to acquire knowledge in the field of renewable energies to help and leverage the development of my beloved homeland.”
