Wellness Week and Health Fair bring Afungi together around wellbeing
From 22 to 28 June, the Afungi Wellness Week and Health Fair brought health and wellbeing to the centre of the working week, as part of an ongoing commitment to the people who build the Mozambique LNG Project.
Over the week, the Afungi workforce stepped away from parts of the daily routine to look after body and mind. Field warm-ups opened each day, alongside Zumba, CrossFit and aerobics, and sessions on nutrition and mental health awareness.
The programme was built to support physical wellbeing and ease fatigue, to look after mental health and to bring teams closer. The warm-ups prepare the body and reduce fatigue before the shift, the awareness sessions open space to talk about mental health without stigma, and the group workouts lower stress and strengthen teamwork.
The week brought together:
- Group physical activity, from field warm-ups to Zumba, CrossFit and aerobics
- Nutrition and mental health awareness sessions
- Free medical, psychological and nutritional check-ups at the closing Health Fair
Participation was strong across the board. Physical activity sessions drew 124 attendees, mental health awareness sessions reached 602, and the medical screening stations recorded 186 visits, alongside 82 individual mental health and nutrition consultations.
Pre-shift warm-ups alone reached 1,615 people across 13 work areas on site, the widest touchpoint of the week.
On the final day, the Health Fair brought together staff from across the companies operating on the project for group and individual challenges, from a walking challenge to a relay race, a volleyball tournament, fitness games and a Zumba colour class, along with check-ups and free counselling. Demand for the different services was such that the programme was extended to 1 July to reach colleagues in the field areas.
More than a one-off, and under the theme ‘Health Project, Health Nation’, the Wellness Week reflects how Mozambique LNG works. Health and wellbeing are part of everyday life at Afungi, and weeks like this bring that care together in one place.
